Abergavenny treasure hunt gives away tech prizes

Tech giant Box hid two boxes packed with a state-of-the-art 65” Sharp TV, laptops, gaming equipment, monitors and computer components in the town on Thursday as part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

The locations of the boxes were revealed throughout the day on social media, with the first people to find them winning the contents.

Hundreds of people raced to the locations - including Olympic silver medallist and Ospreys flanker Sam Cross - after following the postcode clues on social media.

The first box was hidden on the corner of Park Avenue, while the second was found on St Helen’s Road.

Lorelei Boston, 22, from Coleford, and her partner Alex Allen, also 22, from Abergavenny, won two Sharp TVs as well as a Sharp soundbar, party speaker, microwave and air purifier.

The couple also bagged gaming gear worth more than £500 from Razer, PC storage equipment from Synology and a high-performance Acer laptop.

Miss Boston said: “It was such a thrill to win, I was literally shaking when I found the box.

“We kept an eye on social media all day and sussed out a few places we thought the box could be hidden. I can’t believe our tactics worked.

“These are absolutely amazing prizes and I can’t thank Box enough.”

Later in the day, carer Davinia Antrobus, 37, from Abergavenny, found the second box and won a laptop worth around £700 and Targus laptop accessories, Corsair PC components and peripherals and Viewsonic monitors.

Ms Antrobus said: “What an amazing competition. As soon as we saw the box I just leapt out of the car and ran for it.

“I’ll share the prizes with my children. They will be absolutely over the moon. I never win anything.”

There was also a separate competition to take a photo of Box’s digital van as it toured Abergavenny, posting it on social media to be in with a chance to win a £500 Sony voucher.

“The Abergavenny Box Hunt was a huge success and caused a real stir in the town. Well done to those who got there first and won some amazing prizes.

“Having been in business for a quarter of a century, we have amazing relationships with the manufacturers we work alongside and they’ve stepped forward by donating some of the most sought-after items in the tech world.”

And from Monday, there will be a week-long final chance to win prizes with a separate competition on Box’s website.

The total prize fund of the Box Hunt campaign, both in-person and online, is in the region of £35,000.
