SCHOOLS, libraries and leisure centres across Monmouthshire are closed today after heavy snowfall overnight.
Some parts of the county saw more than six-inches of snowfall on Tuesday night and the early hours of this morning, forcing the county council to close all four leisure centres, plus Chepstow, Gilwern, Monmouth and Usk libraries, as well as 36 schools and Boverton House and Clydach pupil referral units.
Community service vehicles including Grass Routes buses, home-to-school transport and all council-subsidised buses have all stopped until conditions improve.
Meals on Wheels will not be delivered today but a council spokesman said all individuals had frozen meals and those who are in need will be visited by home carers in 4x4s.
The council also confirmed 20 gritters are working around the clock to clear Monmouthshire’s main roads. The council has about 40 percent of grit supplies remaining – enough for another seven to 10 days – and has more on order.
One Stop Shops and County Hall remain open. More snow is forecast for Monmouthshire later today.
