WORKERS at Abergavenny's turkey factory are elated at the news that a deal has been struck to secure jobs at the plant.
Two former food industry executives last week rescued the Brandons factory from receivership and have formed a new company called Cranberry Foods.
Jamie Jones, deboning manager, said: "Elation is the word I would have to use to say what this news means. I recently got a mortgage and I have a young family to support.
"After all the rumours that have been flying around it's just great to hear on the news and read in the papers that the deal has gone through.
"As a manager it has been so saddening to see good, capable people leaving the company over the past months because of job fears. Now we have got some security and we can start looking positively towards the future.
"The new management team visited the plant recently to meet the workforce face to face and to explain their plans. That was very much appreciated on the shop floor."
Angela Douglas, who works in the retail department, said: "I have been through this before when Sun Valley went into receivership. This time I was determined to hang on to hear something definite before making a decision about my future. I'm obviously greatly relieved that it has paid off."
Alf Watt, who works in the deboning section, said: "I am immensely relieved. At a certain age it becomes difficult to find alternative employment.
"There were rumours going about that the minimum wage would be introduced as part of the take-over. That is not the case and I think people feel reassured after the meeting with the new owners."
David Vanstone said: "It has been a very trying time but I think things now look good for the future."
Paul Taylor, group training and safety manager, said: "This is great news, particularly as it has come this side of Christmas. With such uncertainty you worry about going out and spending money. Life can now get back to normal.
"From a personal point of view, I am very pleased because the new owners are very health and safety oriented. It is an aspect of the business that is very high on their agenda."
Personnel manager Pam Westwood said: "On behalf of the new management, I would like to thank the workforce for their continued support. They have shown tremendous commitment and teamwork."
