All matches played in the league on Saturday enjoyed another warm, late summer afternoon. The shock of Saturday's results was the defeat of league title favourites, Sebastopol, who went down 4-1 at home to Clydach Wasps.
Clydach Wasps scored their four goals in the first half through Jamie Powell (2), Damien Evans and Peter Smith. Jamie Bell netted for Sebastopol.
In Tuesday's mid-week match Sebastopol won 2-1 away to Usk Town. Craig Williams put Sebastopol into a 1-0 half-time lead. In the second half Mike Dixon put Usk on level terms. Sebastopol's winner came from a Steve O'Dwyer penalty in the 88th minute. Sebastopol drop to third position.
Defeat for Sebastopol versus Clydach Wasps means Goytre and Tranch Utd share Division One's top position.
In midweek, Goytre won 3-0 away to Panteg. All the goals were scored in the second half, with Mike Stuart scoring 2 and Craig Jolliffe 1.
On Saturday Goytre made it three out of three with a narrow 3-2 home win over Mardy. Goytre goal-scorers were Darren Wallace (2) and Andrew Morris, the goal scorer for Mardy was Guy Povey (2), one from the penalty spot, then Povey was sent off for two cautions.
Tranch Utd visited neighbours, Cwmffrwdoer in a mid-week local derby match. The game was described as a thriller, with Tranch winning 4-2, although Cwmffrwdoer led 1-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for Tranch Utd were Shaun Williams (2), Chris Perry and Jason Howells. Scorers for Cwmffrwdoer were Wayne Saunders and David Burgham.
There were plenty of goals in Tranch's Saturday match, when they beat Llanarth 5-1. It was the perfect revenge for Llanarth who lost 5-0 last season at Tranch.
Goals for Tranch came from a Jason Howells hat-trick and two from Robert Tovey. Colin Morgan scored for Llanarth. Tranch led 4-1 at half-time. Is it going to be Tranch's year?
Gilwern & Dist drew their two matches this week. In mid-week they drew 1-1 away to Fairfield Utd and on Saturday they drew 4-4 away to Cwmffrwdoer, who led Gilwern 2-1 at half time.
Gavin Cook gave Fairfield a 1-0 half time lead and a 75th minute goal by Graham Jones put Gilwern level at 1-1.
Goal-scorers for Cwmffrw-doer v Gilwern were a Mark Gunter hat-trick and one from Jason McCann. Goal scorers for Gilwern were Bobby Baynton (2), Mark Prosser and Alan Burkitt. It was Cwmffrwdoer's first point of the season.
Lower New Inn and Llanarth drew their mid-week match 2-2, with Lower New Inn scoring through Darryl Nightingale, the first after 15 minutes and the second he scored with a 30th minute penalty for the Lower to lead 2-0 at the break.
Llanarth came out fighting in the second half and pulled level with a 67th minute goal by Tony Rennie, and a 75th minute goal by Paul Detheridge.
On Saturday, Lower New Inn lost 1-0 away to neighbours Panteg who scored with a Carl Bond volley from 25 yards. Simon Heatman had the ball in the Panteg net twice, but each effort was ruled to be off-side.
Crickhowell recorded two wins this week to go with last Saturdays 0-0 draw, so 7 points from 3 games is a pretty good start for the promoted side.
On Tuesday Crickhowell won their away derby match with Clydach Wasps 2-1. Owain Jones gave Crickhowell a 1-0 half-time lead, then Mike Bennett put Crickhowell 2-0 up before Jace Williams pulled one back for Clydach Wasps.
On Saturday, Crickhowell won 7-0 at home to Fairfield United. Crickhowell led 3-0 at half-time. Goal-scorers for Crickhowell were a Mike Bennett hat-trick, Leighton James (2), Jon Webb and David Walters. Crickhowell 7 points out of 9 from 3 matches in Division One.
Usk Town returned to winning ways on Saturday with a 4-0 home win over Pontypool Town. Usk led 2-0 at half-time, goal scorers for Usk Town were Martyn Latham (2), Sean Taylor and Mike Dixon. It was the first points of season for Usk Town.
In mid-week Pontypool Town beat Mardy at home 7-3. Pontypool led 2-1 at half-time. For Pontypool Town, Lee Thomas scored four, Stuart Price (2) and Steve Bennett (1). Goal-scorers for Mardy were Jamie Laurent, Mark Davies and Jonathan Salmon.
Prescoed are top of Division Two with the maximum of nine points from 3 games, their goals scored tally is 28 from 3 games with just one goal against.
On Thursday Prescoed beat Pontypool B 10-0, and in Saturday's Division Two they cruised to an 8-0 victory over Govilon.

Following Blaenavon Blues 14-0 win last Saturday over Gilwern B the Blues had an 8-1 away win at Pen-y-Pound Stadium over Abergavenny Thursdays. Damian Heward (2), Ryan Keen (2), Jeff Sterry (2), Alun Scammell and Dean Yemm. Jeff Sterry was taken to hospital with a badly cut knee.
On Saturday, the Blues came down to earth with a 1-0 defeat at Race. The all-important Race goal was scored by Gareth Arlow in the 43rd minute, with a long distance lob. Race keeper Scott Jenkins saved a Blues' penalty in the 80th minute to keep the points for Race.
New Inn won the mid-week Division 2 derby over PILCS B 4-2. New Inn led 2-0 at half-time. Goal scorers for New Inn were Neil Pigeon, Billy Day and Allan Pugh (2). Goal-scorers for PILCS B were Nicky Tudball and John Jenkins.
New Inn kept up their winning ways on Saturday with a 4-2 away win at Pontypool B, with goals by Anthony Davies (2), Wayne Wright and Nicky McAndrew. Goal-scorers for Pontypool B were Shaun James and Matthew Davies.
PILCS B suffered their second defeat in five days when on Saturday Gilwern B bounced back to beat them 2-1. James Mahoney gave PILCS B a 1-0 half-time lead, but in the second half Jayde Kelly gave Gilwern B the points with two goals in the last quarter.
In mid-week Gilwern B came back from their opening defeat 14-0 against the Blues to have creditable 1-1 draw with neighbours Govilon.
Gilwern B missed out on at least six goal scoring chances but had to be satisfied with the draw. Jeff Young headed Govilon into a 1-0 half-time lead with a goal scored in the 20th minute. Rhys Sharpe scored for Gilwern B in the 80th minute for the draw.
In mid-week Race B beat neighbours Sebastopol B 7-2. Race led 2-1 at half-time, goals for Race came from a Michael George hat-trick, Gareth Taylor (2), David Glover and Paul Cook scored one apiece. Both Sebastopol B goals were scored By Ian Mruk.
Newcomers Abergavenny Thursdays lost t 6-2 at home to Sebastopol B. Goal scorers against Sebastopol B were Jeff Hayden and Liam Harris. Sebastopol B goals were scored by Alex Lewis (3), Mark Hughes (2) and Lewis Payne. First win of the season for Sebastopol B.
There have been no replies to the referee recruitment request in last week's paper. This week was an even worse picture than last week, due to the two late withdrawals by referees on Saturday morning due to injuries.
