Ashley Jones, group secretary of NFU for North Monmouthshire said he was fully behind our Eat Local, Eat Healthy campaign.
He said it could help boost the rural economy.
'There is more scope for small local producers to sell their produce locally. Some use the farmer's markets but they need a wider net to cast.
'Many sell at livestock markets but a lot of that then goes out of the county and could end up for sale anywhere in the UK.'
He added that it was important to raise the awareness of what local produce is available in Monmouthshire and encourage local consumers to actively seek out local producers.
'The farmer's markets play a role but their customers are a small core base that go time and time again. We need to encourage new shoppers to get along.'
