ABERGAVENNY team manager Steve Hamer is confident his side has all the right ingredients to maintain a solid campaign this season, they just need to find the right recipe.

Hamer admitted he was frustrated with Saturday's defeat, and particularly with some of the referee's decisions.

"We scored late on in the game, but unfortunately it was disallowed. To be honest, I thought some of the decisions, including the disallowed try, were doubtful. Even the opposition said we should have got the score," said Hamer.

Senghennydd couldn't break the Aber-gavenny defensive line, but instead, relied on their goal kicker for of all their points.

The home side managed to gain a touchdown coming from flyhalf James Didcot, and looked to be on course for the win when their forwards drove over the try line late on for a what was disallowed touchdown.

Hamer, not known for dwelling on the past, said there were plenty of positives, though, to take from Saturday's display, but a lot of hard work still needs to be done.

"There were some good individual performances, but we just didn't click as a team and that's what we need to work on. It's a very difficult thing to achieve, though.

'The boys are training and there are more numbers there now, but we just need to talk and get the game plan together.

"Considering we had no trial games and should have won despite playing poorly, suggests we should start picking up the results," said Hamer.

He was impressed by two new forwards making their debut - hooker Gareth Williams and prop Nick Gethin.

"Gareth Williams has been very committed in training and played well. His lineout throws, in particular, were spot on. Nick Gethin too at tight head showed a lot of promise. Props are like gold dust at the moment and he could be a good product.

'I think we still have to find his best side at prop, but once we get a couple of the more experienced lads working with him I think he could fill a big void," admitted Hamer.

Speaking on this Saturday's game away at Pill Harriers, Hamer said he was optimistic.

"There were no high scoring games over the weekend, which suggests a pretty even division this term.

'We've got Pill Harriers this weekend. It's important for us we get a win sooner rather than later."

Centre Simon Rose is Abergavenny's only doubt for this Saturday's game at Pill Harriers, he could be out with a knee injury. Kick off at Pill is at 2.30pm
