What a difference a week can make!
Caldicot came out fighting on this their first away game of the season. Monmouth managed to have 30 keen young boys raring to play on Sunday morning against Caldicot's 14, so it was decided that Caldicot would play two games of 10-aside, back to back, whilst Monmouth pitched their remaining team members against one another.
In the first game, Caldicot played hard with excellent handling and good defensive play and went into half-time 2-up, Ben Snell scoring both tries.
After a quick pep-talk at half-time and bouyed on by their success in the first half, Caldicot came back to demonstrate further improved play, letting Monmouth through just once. Not wanting to concede a further score by the opposition, Caldicot tackled hard and kept up their defensive strategy.
With the minutes fading Bill Fisher flew over the try line for Caldicot, which was then neatly converted by Ben Snell.
With a switch to the few available fresh legs, the second game began and Caldicot, enthused by the result of their first game, took the bit between their teeth and literally ran with the ball. Once again, Ben Snell put the first points on the board, whisking past Monmouth's defence and scoring a try.
Caldicot ran Monmouth ragged, in spite of them having a team made up of totally 'fresh' players, and 'new boy' James went on to score two further tries, one of which he successfully converted with an impressive kick.
Monmouth were left with mud on their faces and no further score as Caldicot once again won the match.
A few changes within Caldicot's Team this week obviously paid off and the boys celebrated their resounding wins in true vocal fashion! Everyone played really well and the effort put in must certainly make others sit up and take note.
