Mens Hockey: South Wales Division 2 Abergavenny 10 Swansea Bay 2
Abergavenny fielded an unchanged side from the previous week and consequently recorded another huge win. The scoreline was not unexpected however, as Abergavenny were 2-0 within the first couple of minutes. After 30 seconds, Abergavenny were awarded a short corner which Geraint Davies coolly placed in the bottom corner for his first of the season.
Shortly after, Anthony Clements continued his rich vein of form by scoring the first of his four goals on the day. This quick flurry of goals brought great excitement to the younger supporters in the crowd and this enthusiasm carried over to the players on the pitch.
Swansea Bay struggled to get in the game from the outset and were held captive in their own half by an Abergavenny side who sensed the opportunity for personal glory. It wasn't long therefore before Clements popped up in the D to strike his second past the onrushing keeper.
Tom Griffiths also found the net in the first half with an easy finish to record his second in as many games.
The second half saw a change to a more attacking formation and this reflected the fact that Swansea managed to claw back two goals as Abergavenny were left short defensively. It is also a result of Peter Hewinson, the Abergavenny sweeper, who preferred to play in the opposition goal mouth and duly scored his first goal in recent seasons.
Fortunately, Abergav-enny never stopped pressing forward and scored another five goals. Kevin Phillips had a fine strike from the left, Nigel Sanchez poached on the goal line, man of the match Clements added a couple more, and Geraint Davies saw his fierce shot hit the back board to send him running back down the length of the pitch in ecstasy.
This week Abergavenny journey to Pembrokeshire.
