Thornwell's young side battled well in this Benevolent Cup match, but just like last week, they ended up with nothing to show for it. Thornwell have a few outstanding young players who will do much better next season.
Play was even in the opening 20 minutes, before Thornwell's King lost possession of the ball and in a rapid counter attack Chepstow's Jamie Goddard found himself in plenty of space and he made no mistake with his 15-yard shot into the corner of the net.
Thornwell hit back and were very unlucky when a Pierce drive from 20 yards hit the post with keeper Pinchard beaten.
Thornwell's Jason Morris battled on well up front on his own, but was well held by Howells and Swallow. With Thomas' defence splitting, passes were a constant worry to the Thornwell defence, with young Rory Garey having an outstanding match. Rory seems to get better each game he plays with old timers like Meddins and Pope around him.
Chepstow started the second half much better, but the game was finished as a match when Goddard handled the ball, but no whistle came and his clever pass put Chris Hooper in for a simple goal.
This was a cruel blow to such a young side, and allowed Chepstow to show just why they are top of the table.
Gavin Thomas headed against the bar from a corner kick.
Chepstow went 3-0 up following a Kenny Roberts pass that set up Simon Howells to seal the victory.
A mention for Thornwell midfield players Hines and Reynolds and sub keeper Drivers, who did well. Man of the Match Thornwell: Rory Garey Man of the Match Chepstow: Steve Swallow These two teams meet again for the third game running next Saturday.
