Abergavenny resumed their league campaign on Saturday with an away fixture against Whitchurch. Following a three week lay-off Abergavenny began the game slowly, lacking shape in midfield and defence.
Whitchurch quickly exploited this lack of confidence by forcing a series of short corners, two of which they scored from.
It took Abergavenny 20 minutes to settle down, once they did they played some fast precise hockey, with Tom Harris, Gregg Dunning, Chris Bu and Geraint Jones linking well. From one of these quick moves Chris Bu dribbled his way into the D and slipped the ball to Geraint Jones who beat the goalkeeper with ease to make the score 2 - 1 by half time.
In the second half it was Abergavenny who exerted the most pressure, having a few excellent chances to level the score before Chris Bu finished another well crafted move with a goal. Back on level terms Abergavenny continued to press forward for the win.
However the award of a corner to Whitchurch saw them score their third goal. With less than ten minutes to go, again Abergavenny took the game to Whitchurch and would have scored had it not been for a series of goal line clearances. Whitchurch won a game they didn't deserve to.
Abergavenny: Martin Brown, Tim Rees, Paul Harrington, Tim Pritchard, Tom Harris, Duncan Melville, Michael Potts, Gregg Dunning, Charles Donovan, Chris Bu, Geraint Tuxworth-Jones
