CALDICOT Town manager Jason Pritchard was rueing two points dropped on Saturday, after a 1-1 draw at Penrhiwceiber saw his side slip off the top to second.

Pritchard admitted that he would have settled for a draw at the start of the game, but given the way his young side had played, thought the win was achievable. But he added that while his maturing team continues to pick up points, he had no cause for complaints.

He said: "It wasn't a bad game, we were slightly disappointed with our first-half performance to be 1-0 down at half-time, but we came back out and equalised and in the end were very unlucky not to take all three points."

The Welsh League Division Two side were without former Tottenham apprentice Wayne Morley, who had already bagged 11 goals this term, and ex-Bristol Rovers frontman Paul Harris, but were back on level terms with mid-table Penrhiwceiber through Mark Williams.

Pritchard was then left wondering what might have been after Jason Thorne came close to settling the tie, but struck a post.

Pritchard added: "We had a disappointing first 35 minutes and didn't wake up until after the goal. But we had a few chosen words at half-time and they responded well.

"In the end, we didn't have the luck on the day, but to be in the position where we are you have to have luck, so it evens itself out."

Looking ahead, Pritchard added: "The average age of the side here is 21 and sometimes we struggle with the physical side of things and lose by the odd goal. But the team is learning and hopefully if they're still here at 24 or 25, we'll be a good mature side.

"That's not to say I'm writing off this season yet - we've a great record at home and just need to make fewer mistakes."
