MIKE Aylett, chairman of Abergavenny RFC, admits he had concerns when coach Gary Lawrence decided to test his youngsters in the second half against Old Illtydians - but later had nothing but praise for the teenage prodigies.
He said: "It was a good victory and a hard game, and winning by 33 points to ten is always a good result.
"But what pleased me most was that the boys who came on from our youth team, Ryan Whiteman and Ben Rutter, played very well. To be honest, at the time I thought Gary was taking a bit of chance, but Ben even scored at the end so it was very pleasing."
And Aylett now has his sights set on breaking away from the chasing pack in Division Three East after this weekend off.
"We were hoping to get a development game arranged for Friday night but the weather doesn't look good so we decided against it.
"Instead we've got Rhymney in a fortnight and it will be another opportunity to increase our lead at the top, especially in the run up to Christmas.
"Last time we played them it was a farce as it was catch-up game in mid-week and you couldn't even see your hand in front of you. Even the announcer was making jokes about Lord Lucan appearing from the fog "So it will be nice this time to play them on a level playing field on a Saturday."
