CHEPSTOW Town's hopes of climbing up the Division Three table were again dashed by the weather at the weekend, leaving Chris Lillygreen's men ill-prepared for their long trip to Newcastle Emlyn this Saturday, writes Keith Fairbank

The Westerners lead the division, while Chepstow are left floundering at the wrong end, and assistant manager Wayne Samuels admits Chepstow have been left frustrated by the adverse conditions.

He said: "We had a pitch inspection at 12.45pm and the referee said that if there was no improvement by 1.30pm then the game would be off. So half an hour before the 2pm kick off he made his decision and said it wasn't going to happen.

"Last week we were due to play Penrhiwfer, and then Treharris Athletic was off on Saturday. We were a bit frustrated as we thought it was playable and we even had a training session afterwards. But in fairness to the referee it did get worse later and he made the right decision."

Samuels is now hoping his side does not have another wasted trip. He said: "Hopefully the weather will be better on Saturday - we don't want an early start and a two and a half hour journey only for the game to be called off. Either way, two weeks without a game isn't ideal preparation for a trip to a side who are top of the league."

Meanwhile, Chepstow's seconds lost 3-1 to Risca. 1-0 down at half time, the reserves pulled the game back to 1-1 in the second period, only to concede twice in the last ten minutes.
