This bad-tempered game had a couple of flash points with the Chepstow supporters being guilty of running on the pitch, this being the third week running that these fierce local rivals had played each other. The first two games both had proper referees and no trouble at all, this game badly needed one.
Once again Thornwell's young Busby babes were missing three key defenders in Rees, Pope and Rory. The game kicked off in heavy fog, but the opening 15 minutes were even, then Thornwell's Jason Dogey Morris scored following a mix up in the home defence.
Chepstow's Goddard had a couple of chances but his finishing, by his standard, was woeful. Some of the tackles from Chepstow's midfield pair Thomas and Swallow and Thornwell babes Skouse and Reynolds were just about legal, no quarter was given. Right on half time Hooper scored one of his special goals to level it at 1-1.
Thornwell took an early lead in the second half when Hines waltzed through the home defence to beat Pinchard. Then the 'keeper blocked a 20 yard shot from Drivers. Chepstow turned the game around with two goals in a minute, the first following a mix-up in the Thornwell defence and Palmer made it 2-2, then danger-man Chris Hooper lashed his shot home. In the 88th minute Thornwell's Skouse shot/cross hit the bar. A draw would have been a fair result.
Thornwell Man of the Match: (Joint) Skouse and Reynolds.
Chepstow Man of the Match: Chris Hooper.
