MAYOR Liz Fleming hosted a civic reception for the committee and friends of Usk in Bloom to congratulate them on the achievement of winning both Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom.
In her welcoming address, Liz said: "Whenever I tell people where I live, they always comment on how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place, and much of this is due not only to our surroundings but also to the added attraction of the wonderful floral displays."
She also paid tribute to previous chairmen, founder member Max Rowles and the late Dorothy Guy.
"Their contributions and the enthusiasm of the current committee and all the helpers have put Usk on the map, not only as a place to visit, but also as a place to live and work."
Presenting the trophies to the town council for safekeeping at Sessions House, Usk in Bloom chairman, David Gale, thanked everyone for their massive support this year.
"We are already looking to next year when we shall be entering Wales in Bloom again, but also have the honour of representing the UK in the European Entente Florale - which is a bit like being in the European Cup final! As our twin town of Graben-Neudorf in Germany is celebrating its 700th anniversary next year we shall be drawing on colours of civic badges and national flags for our colour scheme!"
