SISTERS, sisters, there were never more devoted sisters.
The words of the Beverley Sisters' song is fitting for two Abergavenny girls - Laura and Emily Chicken.
And the elder sister, Laura, 12, has just been rewarded for her devotion to her sister, Emily, nine, with a Young Achiever of the Year award given by Valleys Radio.
She received her award last week at a star-studded evening at Maes Manor, Blackwood, which was attended by Laura's parents, Neil and Sara, of Western Road, Abergavenny.
Laura was nominated by her mother because she gives her sister so much love, and has coped well in spite of her sister's disability.
Emily was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome when her development halted when she was 18 months old. She cannot talk, but communicates in her own way through eye contact and becoming animated.
Mrs Chicken said: "I feel Laura has taken on quite a lot, having to give Emily so much attention. But she's achieved a lot and is a confident little girl who lives life to the full."
Laura enjoyed the ceremony, and even raised £105 for the Rett Syndrome Association.
