MONMOUTH fencer Katherine Kempe will represent Wales in the inaugural Junior Common-wealth Championships in India in January. The 17-year-old Mill-field student, pictured, is currently 11th in the British Junior (under-20) sabre rankings and was pre-selected for the event, which takes place in the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Periamet, Chennai, from January 24 to 29, and her place in the final 14-strong Welsh team has now been confirmed.
The highlight of Kempe's season so far has been a bronze medal in this year's UK Junior Championships, but hopes are high for India.
"We believe that a Welsh junior team, properly prepared, can bring home a haul of four to six medals, individual or team," said Welsh team captain Mark Nelson-Griffiths.
