Ewys Harold Reserves 5 Skenfrith United 2

Despite the scoreline, Skenfrith United put up a much better display than in previous weeks.

The visitors started the match brightly and within ten minutes were 1-0 up, Ellias scoring from the penalty spot after being brought down in the box.

The game was a tight affair in the first half but the longer it went on the more pressure Harold applied and they scored two goals before half time, both coming from counter attacks.

The second half couldn't have stared worse for Skenfrith. After only 30 seconds, some shambolic marking saw them fall further behind.

As has happened so often in the past, Skenfrith began to play their best football after conceding, and created numerous chances, controlling large sections of play.

But with Byron missing from six yards, the goalkeeper spilling a ball and nobody quick enough to react to put it away, and another effort from Byron saved well, it became clear it was not going to be Skenfrith's day. Harold broke away leaving two on one at the back. Goalkeeper Jerkins raced off his line only to be chipped to make it 4-1.

With the game falling apart but the willingness still there, Skenny conceded again from another break away.

At this point, manager Brown was sent from the pitch-side for dissent. But Skenfrith continued to compete and David Byron grabbed a consolation to make the score 5-2.

After the game, Brown said: "The boys are so close to turning the corner and, with two of last year's main defenders back next week, things won't seem so bad.

"We're still in three cups and could easily finish top half of the league, which I feel is a good effort as it's a difficult league with all clubs of a decent standard."
