It was a busy weekend for coaches at the Kestrel Gymnastics Club based in Bulwark, Chepstow.

On Saturday the club hosted the East Wales Intermediate Competition and on Sunday it was the East Wales Inter Club Assessment for six and seven-year-olds.

In the intermediate competition Jessica Burchill, from Garden City, led the way for Kestrels by winning the all around gold medal as well as individual golds on vault, beam and floor in the 12/13 year old section. Her coach, Shirley Bennett said: "I have never seen Jess so focused - I am delighted with her performance."

In the 10/11 section Emma Rickards, from Lydney, took individual silver on the bars.

Father and coach Kevin Rickards said: "This was a great achievement for Emma as she has had a couple of injuries on bars and does not exactly love them. Hopefully she will gain more confidence from this result.: Daisy Nightingale, from Chepstow, led the way for the Kestrels with an individual floor gold in the six-year-old group of the inter club assessment.

"This was her first performance in front of an audience and I am over the moon," said coach Carly Hawke. In the seven-year-old group Billie Jane Corbett, from Bulwark, took overall bronze. Billie also took individual silver medals for conditioning and vault. Carly Hawke, her coach, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Billie and I am really pleased with her performance. I am proud of all the gymnasts who competed for the club as they all did better than I expected. Well done to them all."
