CHEPSTOW'S Olivia Orchart is on the fringe of breaking into the top 100 women foil fencers in the UK after finishing 27th in last weekend's Hereford and Worcester Open competition.

Last weekend's result plus 64th place in last month's Welsh Open tournament should lift the 16-year-old to around 100th place in the senior British foil rankings. Olivia is next in action for the Welsh region under-17 team in the Winton Cup in Millfield School, Somerset, the weekend after next.

Her brother George was competing in the Hereford and Worcester Open for the first time and finished 86th in the men's foil. A third Chepstow fencer, Kelly James, was 62nd in the women's foil. All three are members of Gwent Sword Club, who train at Chepstow Leisure Centre on Friday evenings. For more details of the club see www.gwentswordclub.co.uk
