A MONMOUTHSHIRE couple are facing Christmas in the back of a van after losing their home.
Craig Jones, 24, and his wife Nicola, 21, have been homeless for the last four months.
For the last two months, they have been living in a converted Renault Trafic in a car park in Maryport Street, Usk.
"It's very cramped and very cold at night, but we've got a gas cooker in the van which just about keeps us warm," said Mr Jones.
The couple have been fined £200 for illegal use of the car park as a dwelling by Monmouthshire county council this week. He must pay £100 for the camper van and £100 for another van of his parked nearby.
Mr Jones says he has been unemployed since July 2005. They have been without a home of their own since their landlady in New Inn refused to renew their tenancy.
The couple applied to Torfaen council's Homefinder scheme without success. A Torfaen council spokesman said Mr Jones doesn't qualify for emergency housing.
