A KNIFE-WIELDING teenager confronted Monmouth police officers in an incident outside the police station, pictured, in Glendower Street, on Wednesday, February 1, at 11.20pm.
After challenging the officers, one of whom received a minor injury during the confrontation, the 18-year-old local man made his getaway from the scene.
Other officers gave chase and caught up with him in Priory Street, where he jumped onto the spiked, seven-foot tall railings behind the one stop shop.
The man then threatened to commit suicide by jumping from the railings, but the police officers in attendance eventually talked him down.
After 15 minutes, with the man giving himself up, he was then arrested and subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act.
Monmouth police are appealing for witnesses to the original incident, which took place outside the police station, to come forward, and in particular they are looking for the man who was wearing a blue coat. Any witnesses call Monmouth Police Station on 01633 712321.
