MONMOUTH Police believe a pair of pre-Christmas sex attacks on local teenagers were linked, and are appealing for more information regarding the incidents.
The first occurred on a Friday evening in late November or early December at approximately 9.45pm. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, reports that she was walking along Goldwire Lane in Monmouth town centre when a male approached and assaulted her.
Investigations are also ongoing into the attack on a 17-year-old Monmouth female, who was sexually assaulted in the early hours of Saturday, December 3.
The girl was walking from Agincourt Square towards the Osbaston area when she was approached from behind by two men on the Hereford Road, at approximately 1.30am.
The men, described as in their 30s, assaulted her but were startled by the headlights of a passing vehicle and ran off back in the direction of Monmouth town centre.
At the time of the attack, Monmouth Police described the attack as "isolated", but having since received the report of the attack on the 13-year-old, believe the two incidents may be linked.
Police would like to remind females not to walk alone late at night and always to walk in well-lit areas.
Witnesses to either incidents, particularly the driver of the passing vehicle described in the December 3 incident, should contact local police on 01633 838111 or Crimestoppers 0800 555111.
