THE GIRLS of Mardy Tigers have secured the league title in the South Wales Girls League North Division.
Last weekend, the under-13s needed just a point against Abertysswg to win the league outright, but came through the fixture 3-1 winners thanks to goals from Kate Jeremiah, Ellie Curson and Amy Thrupp.
Going into the game, the girls had already equalled the 40-point haul of nearest rivals Ferndale Fillies; that followed a 2-0 win over fellow title-contenders Crickhowell Silver Panthers, with Jeremiah again scoring once in each half for Mardy.
The Tigers were positive from the outset against Crickhowell, creating early chances for striker Amy Thrupp. It was Thumpp who combined with Ellie Curson in the build up to the first goal, with Jeremiah shooting into the far corner.
Panthers then started stronger after the break, with Lauren Lambert producing a fine save to keep the score at 1-0. But with ten minutes to go winger Jeremiah slotted home with her left foot to all but seal the title. Mardy under-13s again take on Crickhowell Silver Panthers this weekend, in the first round of fixtures in the combined North and South regions cup contest.
