PLAYING to a full house every night, this performance of Guys and Dolls was one of the most remarkable of Monmouth Comprehen-sive School's productions.
Every aspect showed incredibly thorough preparation and attention to detail.
From the very first song it was clear that we were in for singing of a very high order and all without the aid of microphones.
The large cast was led by a number of principals who gave performances quite simply way beyond their years.
Danielle Bird as Sarah Brown, the leader of the Broadway branch of the Save-a-Soul Mission, gave a wonderfully fluent account, with a soprano voice of impeccable pitch and clarity.
Olly Thornton as Benny Southstreet had the voice and performing ability of a seasoned professional and John Saunders made an excellent Nathan Detroit.
Alex Bargh's portrayal of Sky Masterson, was also impressive as was the astonishingly adult voice and delivery of Chris Davies who made the role of Nicely Nicely Johnson his own.
Chris' contribution was like with an old hand taking charge with Sit Down, You're Rocking The Boat being a high point of the evening. Mat Watkins made an effective grandfather of Sarah Brown as Arvide Abernathy.
The dancing, choreographed by Deborah Brewis was hugely enjoyable and The Hot Box Dancers were led brilliantly by Katie James, in her first major role as Miss Adelaide - yet another tremendous performance in every way.
The performances were a testament to the vibrant state of performing arts at Monmouth Comprehensive School led by Joanne Winfer, head of Drama, who designed, produced and directed the production.
The combination of outstandingly talented students and inspiring and imaginative direction created a production, which will linger long in the memory.
The band of musicians was made up of students, under the direction of Charlotte Manners.
