THE White Hart, at Llangybi, Near Usk, has been prosecuted for two offences under the Food Safety Act 1990 and the Food Safety (General Food Hygiene) Regulations 1995.
The case, brought by Monmouthshire County Council, was heard at Abergavenny Magistrates Court yesterday.
The proprietor of the business, Delvyn Firth pleaded guilty to the two offences.
The business was fined £800 including costs for failing to maintain the premises in a clean condition and for failing to keep equipment clean. An officer inspected the White Hart Public House on November 8, when the offences were found.
The floor surface was filthy in between, under and behind cooking equipment; wall surfaces were dirty, and; there was a large accumulation of dead insects behind a sink unit.
The canopy above the cooking range was dark brown with grease and a fridge handle was encrusted with dried food debris.
The standard of cleanliness in the premises has now considerably improved.
