Police officers in Caldicot recently ran an operation to ensure taxi drivers are abiding by the law.
Eleven taxis/private hire vehicles were stopped during the initiative to check their vehicles were roadworthy and the drivers were complying with the terms of their licence.
In total:
3 drivers failed to wear or display their badges
1 driver did not have their vehicles identification plates displayed
6 drivers didn't have a fire extinguisher in their vehicle, or did not have it labelled or within easy reach of the driver
4 drivers either had an inadequate first aid kit or had no kit at all
Police officers, a special constable and two licensing officers from Monmouthshire County Council all worked together on the initiative and were joined by a Caldicot Town Councillor who observed the operation during the evening.
Sergeant Mark Bowen, who led the operation said, "The offences identified were of a minor nature, however we will be carrying out further random operations in the future to ensure drivers are complying with the law and people riding in these vehicles are safe."
