SIX POINTS in a week against two relegation-threatened sides have catapulted Caldicot Town right back into contention with the top sides in Welsh League Division Two.
Jason Pritchard's men ended a fantastic February with back-to-back wins over Porthcawl in midweek and then Abertillery on Sat-urday. Having taken 10 points from a possible 12 last month, and conceded one solitary goal in the process, Town are now up to fifth ahead of this weekend trip to Merthyr.
And Pritchard admits the good run of form has forced him to re-think his managerial philosophy.
He said: "When I was in charge of the seconds, I always told the boys performances were the main thing - but I think I have to accept now that a win is a win.
"We didn't play all that well against Porthcawl, but at the end of the day we have taken the points - after we had played better the weekend before and only got a draw."
Tyrone Tucker's opener and a late strike from substitute Jason Thorn saw off Porthcawl in the 2-1 win on Wednesday, before first-half goals from Gareth Cullimore and a David Lloyd penalty sent Abertillery packing.
Pritchard added: "In relation to their league position, we were expecting to win both games, but we haven't always done well against those sides and again they were better then the position showed.
"Against Abertillery, we thought it would be harder and the wind did make things difficult. But credit to them, as they did better second half, so both teams played better without the wind behind them.
"Our keeper, James Smallcombe, had to make a good save, but we had chances to score at the other end."
Pritchard was also impressed with debutante David Davies, a 19-year-old defender signed from Yate Town. He now hopes to name an unchanged squad for the trip to Merthyr Saints on Saturday, kick off at 2.30pm.
He said: "I think they're going to be difficult on their patch as we don't do well away from home. But we need another win in our position and we're going there hoping for another three points."
