D2: Thornwell A 3, Sudbrook CC 2
DESPITE the high winds blowing across Thornwell Park making passing football almost impossible, Thornwell and Sudbrook managed five goals in this tie on Saturday with the home side edging out their local rivals Sudbrook had taken the lead when Gilliver missed a cross in the wind for Jones to head home but Thornwell responded with Andrew Skouse, Rees and Tony Reynolds all going close. Sudbrook keeper David then pushed Kenny Vidler's effort around the post to maintain the 1-0 until the interval. It took a spectacular 25-yard effort from Jason Fitzgerald after the break to finally draw Thornwell level, his thunderbolt effort giving David no chance in the Sudbrook goal.
Pierce struck a post before Darren Hines gave Thornwell the lead from the spot after the referee awarded a harsh penalty.
But Sudbrook were back on level terms when another cross the right was caught in the wind and flew past an amazed Gilliver for 2-2.
The game seemed destined for a draw, with David making a brave save from the feet of Reynolds.
But Vidler finally lost his marker and laid off the ball for Gavin Lewis to drill home the winner for Thornwell.
