The 'Doer entertained Gilwern in this return fixture and enjoyed the lion's share of the first half, creating numerous scoring opportunities from Jamie Roch, Ross Peake and Kyle Palfrey.
However, they lacked the finishing touch to trouble Kurt Jones in the Gilwern goal and the half finished 0-0.
Three minutes into the second half, Ross Peake broke the deadlock when put clear by brother Robbie. Ross beat two defenders to squeeze the ball past the advancing 'keeper.
Ten minutes later, went into a 2-0 lead when Kyle Tovey fed Roch, who found Chris Parry in space to score with a powerful volley.
However, Gilwern never gave up and pulled a goal back after 60 minutes through substitute Adam Carrington. Minutes later, Shane Thomas hit a fierce volley which was well saved by Kurt Jones.
Gilwern tried hard to get on level terms but the 'Doer held on to take the three points and the double over the visitors.
On Saturday, the Gwent Central side are away to Usk and the Gwent County side are home to league leaders Mardy. Both kick off 2.15pm.
