NEW Panteg's under-15s overturned old rivals and friends RTB Ebbw Vale 17-7 in a well-spirited encounter with entertainment served up by both teams.
The semi-frozen pitch played host to some excellent running rugby and good tactical kicking. Both teams' half-backs were especially prominent, while the forwards engaged in a well-contested battle for supremacy.
Darrel Moyle had been the sole scorer for New Panteg before the break, which saw Ebbw Vale edging the game 7-5.
But with great counter attacking providing relief for the Panteg backs, the hosts were able to soak up heaps of pressure as Ebbw's pack began to tire.
New Panteg finally drove them half-way down the pitch for good field position, before the ball was spun out to the wings for a cracker of a try in the corner by Jordan Hillier.
Ebbw pushed on with only a few minutes left but got turned over for Lloyd Cross to score after double-dummying the tired defence. Hillier converted from the touchline to put the game beyond Ebbw's reach.
