County Motors Cup Round Two
Race First XI 3
Panteg First XI 2
injury-ravaged Race booked their place in the next round of the County Motors Cup, with a superb battling performance against higher opposition, and thoroughly deserved their victory.
They battled from being two goals down in the opening 20 minutes. The defenders were caught early on by Panteg's tactics of sending the long ball over the top.
However, Race pulled a goal back with an absolute scorcher from Daynar Thorpe, as he beat two panteg players, he unleashed a powerful 30-yard shot to score.
Five minutes later some superb build-up play saw Russell Williams put through and he slotted the ball low past the advancing 'keeper, to take his tally to four goals in five games.
Race applied more and more pressure and could have scored another as Daynar Thorpe hit the post but the sides went in level at the break.
Race allowed their opponents to take control of the first ten minutes of the second half, but then built some good passages of play and dominated the half.
The back four of Proudman, Hodge, Jones and Clark held firm, and the Race were awarded for their persistence with ten minutes left, with a penalty.
However, the spot kick was well saved and Drinkwater's follow-up shot hit a post.
It was left to Daynar Thorpe to book their place in the hat, as he connected to a beautiful cross from the right to slot home coolly, after 88 minutes.
