A joy to watch was the reaction from the crowd as Pontypool Town A ran riot over Gilwern and District, winning by 7-3 in a thrilling encounter.
What was really pleasing was the fact it was a team effort with everyone contributing to the contest.
The match began somewhat quietly and honours were even but the second saw Ponty completely take control playing exhibition football. Man of the Match went to R Wakeling who scored a hat-trick to take his season's tally to 19 and it was eighth MOM award.
Veteran striker W Nash continued his excellent run of goals to chip in with another two and the other scorers were J Stokes and K Crook who had a really game at fullback.
With five minutes to go the crowd gave a warm reception to Chairman P Kearns, playing his first match of the season whilst his son, S Kearns, played for Pontypool Town B. they were playing away to Crickhowell and were beaten 4-2 in a somewhat disappointing performance, but the highlight was another two goals for young striker S Taylor to take his tally to 12 for the season.
