Goytre's spell out of action stretched to three weeks on Saturday as freezing conditions forced the postponement of their game at Blaenrhondda.

That was the latest in a trio of cancellations with fixtures home to Treowen and away at Cwmamman also falling victim to the weather.

The lack of game play has left Goytre officials fearing the prospect of a fixture backlog - a problem that hampered the side last season.

"There weren't that many games played on the weekend," said Goytre Chairman Paul Greenhalgh.

"That's the third game on the trot we've been called off, one for rain, one for snow and one for frost.

"It's one of those things. There's nothing we can do about it but Blaenrhondda is one of the furthest places we've got to travel.

"We had the same problem last year. We went five weeks without a game so we're hoping to get this week's on."

Goytre will entertain Porth on Saturday - weather permitting - with Greenhalgh once again targeting three points.

"They're down the bottom of the table, he added. It's always a hard game but hopefully we can get back to action and get something out of the game.

"The boys have been training really hard but it's not the same as match practice.

"And if you lose fitness at this level you can get punished."

Mark Langford is expected to be the only player missing for Goytre when they take on Porth as he is still recovering from the effects of a blood clot in his leg.

He is expected to return to action in the next two to three weeks.

Meanwhile Goytre's second team beat Panteg two nil with goals from Julian Richards and Anthony Atkinson, they are now fourth in the Gwent Central League with games in hand on all the teams above them.
