Pontypool were narrowly beaten at home by Llanharan on Saturday, but their was no shame in narrowly losing to a side that play their rugby in Division one, two tiers higher than United.
A hard-fought game finished 10-12 in the visitors favour after United matched their higher ranked opposition for large periods.
The game was deadlocked 3-3 at half time after a Darren Pearce penalty for the hosts had been cancelled out by an effort from Wayne Jevins.
Jevins went on to kick three more penalties in the second half to give his side a 12-3 lead before Rhys Griffiths narrowed the gap with a try that Pearce converted.
And despite some late United pressure Llanharan held out for a victory they just about deserved.
