This was a thrilling Anglo-Welsh encounter where both teams were prepared to run the ball at every opportunity. Two of the tries however were scored as a result of some excellent rolling maul work by each side.
It was the visitors who scored first against the run of play when they capitalised on Garn's poor ball retention. Garn responded soon after with flanker Jamie Ireland scoring.
It was Lydney who scored next by evading some weak tackling for the winger to touch down under the posts. This seemed to spur the Garn players and with some slick ball handling full back Clayton Gullis was the recipient for the next try and score in the corner. The visitors leading 12-10 into the interval.
The second half was much the same as the first but equally as entertaining and it was the hosts who scored the last try with only eight minutes remaining. From the ensuring ruck fly-half Owain Davies kicked the ball across field and winger Dan Davies scooped up to score in the corner.
Garn showed some good character to come away with the spoils as a draw would probably have been a fair result.
Tredegar U13s 0 v Garndiffaith U13s 37
The Garn were far too strong for their hosts and ran riot with almost every player scoring for the team. This was a good result however.
Pontypool District Schools U11s 15 v Neath District Schools U11s 12 DC Thomas Cup
Pontypool progressed into the next round of this prodigious competition but will need to learn to kill games off when they are so much the dominant side.
This was a game of two halves as Pooler were so dominant playing up the slope in the first half by scoring two tries but unable to take advantage of the slope in the second as Neath spoiled any possession that was gained.
Although the home side scored again in the second period, the visitors were tenacious and scored two tries of their own which resulted in a nail biting finale.
