Spirit Race Display Cwmffrwdoer Sports 3 Race Second XI 0
On this important day for Race Football Club, 100 years since the first team stepped out onto a football pitch, the Second XI tried to put behind them some poor recent form behind them and started this fixture well with some good passages of play. The side were undone against the run of play with two goals in 10 minutes scored by the pacy and youthful Cwmffrwdoer strikeforce, despite suspicions of offside on the second.
The side did settle for the remainder of the half, and created several chances of their own, but were lacking that lethal striker to win games. On an heavy pitch, credit must be given to both teams as they both attempted to play passing football.
Race started the second half well and the story for most of this half was that Race could not score, with David Goodchild going close with an header as it rocked the crossbar. Race fell for the sucker punch, as poor tackling resulted in Cwmffrwdoer scoring their third of the game.
Despite the introduction of veterans Mark Williams and James Proudman, they could not make their experience tell, although Mark Williams did force the home keeper into a smart saved from a vicious left foot shot. Race man of the match was the lively, Daynar Thorpe.
