GARN Athletic's superb run in the Ivor Jones Cup finally came to end recently, when the second-string outfit were narrowly beaten 8-0 in the semi-finals by Panteg.
Panteg, meanwhile, march on the final after scoring a try and a penalty in the 8-0 win.
Garndiffaith head coach Adrian Herbert said afterwards he hoped to see more commitment in training from his Athletic squad players.
Meanwhile, the first XV maintained their dominance of the Welsh League Division Four East with a 25-12 win over Tredegar Ironsides.
The league leaders were rewarded with a well-earned revenge win against the only team to have beaten them in the league this season. Starting strongly, Garn took the game to their opponents and put them under pressure, with outside half Craig Sulway using the ball well.
But it was second row Matthew Billens who opened the scoring with a superb try.
He later bagged a second try and produced a try-saving tackle in the corner.
In their first attack late in the first half, Tredegar scored a converted try to go in 12-7 down at the half. Garn conceded a second early on and were forced to defend their line against sustained pressure.
Garn launched their own attacks through outstanding centres Davies and Philips. Two penalties by Sulway followed, before hooker Lee Courtney ran half the field to score and cap a fine performance.
