Panteg AFC 4 Undy Athletic 3
GWENT County Division One side Panteg took all three points against strugglers Undy for the second time this season on Saturday - but manager Paul Thomas was made to sweat on the sideline as his side served up a seven goal thriller.
Panteg took the lead inside the first five minutes when Paul Morgan challenged the Undy keeper and Mark Taylor slotted in the loose ball, but the away side were back on level terms after 20 minutes to set the tone for a see-saw scoreline.
A looping header from Tom Daley before half-time restored Panteg's initiative before the break before Taylor had a penalty saves which would have settled the game.
As it was, an own goal on 75 minutes - an Undy defender heading a Lee Williams cross over his own keeper and in off the bar and into the net - should have left Thomas' side cruising home.
But the game was destined for more drama as an Undy corner beat everyone to float directly into the heavily guarded net with ten minutes to go. Young 16-year-old Panteg substitute James Wilkins restored the two-goal cushion with a fine finish with five minutes to go but Panteg were undone by another set-piece in the dying minutes, but held on for the narrow 4-3 win.
Thomas reflected: "We just kept conceding and made it hard for ourselves. But Undy kept going and will probably be disappointed not to have got a point."
The seconds looked to be holding Cwmffrwdoer to a 2-2, with goals from Jon Owen and Paul Hale, but were undone by a late dubious penalty to go down 3-2. Panteg's first team, meanwhile, are next away to Abercarn on Saturday.
