Blaenavon Table Tennis Club was formed in July 1985 with seven members (two adults and five beginners). Over the years the membership has varied, dropping to three at one time, rising to its present total of over 20.
Since its early beginnings, the club can surely boast that it is the most successful in Wales in producing or helping to produce top players at both county and international level. To date they have had 40 internationals, and many of these have played in Europe.
The ages of junior members range from eight to 14.
Many of the members play in the local Eastern Valley league, and several represent the Eastern Valley in the Welsh League, and also Gwent in the English county tournament. Some juniors, very successfully, represent the club in many junior and senior tournaments at venues all over England.
Guiding these youngsters, together with several adults is Dave Allen who is a Table Tennis Association of Wales qualified coach.
All the above activities are based at the Blaenavon Recreation Centre who's manager and staff over the years have greatly contributed to the members success.
