Cwmbran 13 Old Illtydians 11
This was Cwmbran's third consecutive win but was far from the polished performance the team had shown against Fairwater and Senghenydd in previous weeks. Nevertheless it was a win and the difference between the sides on Saturday was that home side Cwmbran had a far superior scrum; Hopkins, Copeman, Hayes, Birch and Williams had Old Illtydians on the rack in this phase of play for practically the whole of the game.
A charged down kick in the 22 resulted in the visitors taking an early try, which went unconverted. Cwmbran were quick to respond when stand-off Carl Moore slotted over a long range penalty via the crossbar. Further infringements resulted in both sides exchanging penalty successes. The Crows, however, scored a well worked try in which their three-quarters handled well for wing Ben Sainsbury to score. Carl Moore kicked the conversion for Cwmbran to lead 13-8. An Old Illtydians drop goal reduced the lead to 13-11 at the interval. Despite playing down the slope in the second half Cwmbran couldn't break through for any more scores.
