Cwmffrwdoer 2 Blaenavon Blues 3
BLAENAVON kept up the pressure on Gwent County Division One league-leaders Mardy on Saturday with a 3-2 win at Cwmffrwdoer, but only after a late comeback having gone 2-0 behind inside 15 minutes. The Doer got off to the perfect start after five minutes when David Jenkins found Matthew Jackson in space, with Jackson drilling the ball home past the Blues' keeper. Then an own goal on 15 minutes doubled Cwmffrwdoer's lead and left Blaenavon with a mountain to climb.
Both sides were able to produce fast flowing football despite the windy conditions and heavy pitch, but the next half-hour saw the score remain at 2-0 until the break.
Blaenavon emerged for the second half a more dominant outfit and exerted constant pressure on the Doer defence. Jeff Morgan finally began the fightback after 65 minutes, forcing the ball over the line.
With ten minutes to go, Blaenavon drew level from the penalty spot after Gareth Priest was brought down in the box. Then the home side were forced to withdraw Ryan Waite and Matthew Shearman with leg injuries to hinder their attacking options.
And Doer's hearts were broken in the final minute when the Blues struck a late winner - despite appeals for handball from the home side.
Cwmffrwdoer are at home again on Saturday, when mid-table Panteg will be the visitors, kick-off at 3pm.
Meanwhile, Cwmffrwd-oer's second side in Gwent Central Division one went down 2-0 to league leaders Tranch. This weekend they travel to Llanarth (kick off 3pm).
