Saturday's games were played on a dry, sunny, but a bitterly cold afternoon. Only one game was cancelled and that was Blaenavon Blues v Panteg with the Blaenavon Recreation Ground still have a couple of inches of snow on it.
Tranch Utd stay at the top of Division One following their 2-0 home derby win over Cwmffrwdoer. Shaun Williams put Tranch Utd 1-0 up with a goal from the penalty spot on the half hour, and ten minutes later Richard Wakeling made it 2-0 with a goal scored form a tremendous volley into the bottom corner. In another derby match Goytre lost 3-2 at home to neighbours Llanarth. The goal scorers for Llanarth were Stephen Morgan, Toby Preece and Michael Morgan. Michael Dixon scored both Goytre's goals. MOM Goytre: Symon Bailey. MOM Llanarth: Barry Hopkins.
Clydach Wasps 4-2 home win over Lower New Inn moves the Wasps up from third position to second, but leaders Tranch Utd keep their three games in hand over Clydach Wasps and Goytre. Seventeen-year-old Ryan Price scored a hat-trick and the other Wasps goal came from Shaun Williams. Goal scorers for the Lower New Inn were Rob Morter and Mitchell Powell. Race Utd made a rare home appearance but collected their third win of the season by beating Gilwern & District 3-2. Race Utd led 3-1 at full-time but Gilwern pulled a second goal back through a Steve Williams injury time penalty. Graham Rees scored the other Gilwern goal. Scorers for Race Utd were Jason Howells (2) and Paul Cook. MOM Race Utd: Barry Reed. MOM Gilwern & District: Graham Rees. Gilwern had Chris Rees sent off and they also missed a penalty in the 44th minute.
Butch Morgan's Govilon collected another maximum points from their 6-0 away win at Bailey Park, Abergavenny over local rivals Mardy. At half time Govilon had established a 5-0 lead but a second half fight back by Mardy kept Govilon to a single second half goal. Goal scorers for Govilon were Dean Morgan (3), Jamie Wilkins (2) and James Edwards. MOM Mardy: James Edwards. MOM Govilon: Dean Morgan. The match was very well refereed by stand-in referee Peter Banfield.
Prescoed are still in top position and have the finishing line in view. Prescoed retains their four point gap over second placed Pandy, Prescoed are the team to beat. On Saturday Prescoed beat Clydach Wasps B 10-0, in a very sporting and entertaining game. Scorers for Prescoed were Jay Roberts (4), Gregg Wood (2), Dale Lent, Ian Williams, Anthony Jones and Brian Wright. MOM Clydach Wasps B: Gareth Weed. MOM Prescoed: Ian Williams.
Pandy beat Aber Thursdays 5-1 in the local derby at Pen-y-Pound Stadium. Pandy's goals came from a Kick Morgan hat-trick plus a goal apiece from Chris Morgan and Jason Osbourne. Scorer for Aber Thursdays was Ben Moriarty who was also Thursdays MOM. MOM Pandy: Neil Gunter.
PILCS kept up their winning ways with a 6-2 away derby win over neighbours Sebastopol. PILCS goals came from Justin Edmond (3), Paul Taylor (2) and Scott Davies. Goal scorers for Sebastopol were Ryan Kitson and Craig Lister. MOM Sebastopol: Darryl Nightingale. MOM PILCS: Marcus Warner.
Plenty of goals in the Crickhowell v Fairfield Utd match where Crickhowell ran out 5-4 winners, although it was Fairfield Utd who held a 2-1 half time lead. Crickhowell goals came from a Craig Bennett hat-trick plus Matthew and Alun Jones. Goal scorers for Fairfield Utd were Michael Harper (2), Daley Whitcombe and Gavin Cook. New Inn are in fourth place with four games in hand and could seriously make a challenge for the runners up spot. On Saturday New Inn won 8-0 away to Llanarth B. Goal scorers for New were Nicky Tudball (2), Michael Stewart (2), Lee Waddon, Billy Day, John Radcliffe and Wayne Wright. MOM Llanarth B: Carwen Tranter. MOM New Inn: Lee Waddon.
Mardy B visited the Usk Island to take on Usk Town B and could only must nine players but Mardy B came away with a share of the points with a 2-2 draw. Steve Wade scored both of Usk B's goals. Goal scorers for Mardy B were Craig Phillips and Matthew Lynch. MOM Usk Town B: Goal keeper Mark Cordell. MOM Mardy B: Matthew Lynch.
Pontypool Town B beat Gilwern B 3-2. Goal scorers for Pontypool Town B were Kevin Rogers, Scott Taylor and Stuart Price. Scorers for Gilwern B were Mark Wakeley and Steve Woods. MOM Pontypool Town B: Tyrone Rowlands. MOM Gilwern B: Allan Teague. Gilwern B lost three players through injury, one of which was Jay Chapman who went to hospital with a dislocated shoulder.
The Leagues annual rules meeting will be held on Thursday, March 16 at Pontypool Town Hall at 7pm.
