A young boxer from Caldicot has been selected to represent Wales in an international competition in Dublin on Friday.

Twelve-year-old Scott Webber, who is a member of the Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club, has already fought 18 fights in his short career, and as his manager Terry Dymock put its "is full of potential".

Scott is a pupil at Caldicot Comprehensive School and took up boxing when he was eight years old.

After playing both rugby and football, he felt he wanted to try his hand at a more individual self-disciplined sport.

He said: "I knew some family friends who went to the boxing club. I remember watching Rameece (Rouf) boxing and thinking I would really like to have a go at it."

Scott will be travelling to Dublin on Friday to compete in the Wales vs Ireland School Boys International Competition, along with coaches and members from the club.

He told the Free Press that he felt his involvement in boxing had helped him become more self-disciplined and built up his confidence.

He said: "It has definitely helped with discipline in school. You get more of a respect for teachers too because of training with coaches you learn a lot about respect."

Scott's father, Peter, added: "He really has come on leaps and bounds since he started boxing. We are really proud of him." Scott, along with other local youngsters such as Rameece Rouf and Ryan Moore, have all excelled at the boxing blub formed by manager, Terry Dymock, in 1976.

Mr Dymock said: "We have a lot of good lads here and the coaches put in a lot of work. In February we've also got six lads going to Stockholm to compete in a club tournament and hopefully the club's success will continue to grow." Chepstow Amateur Boxing Club is held at the Drill Hall and anybody interested in attending the club should call Mr Dymock on 01291 624 136.
