THOUSANDS of people lined the streets of Abergavenny to enjoy the town's annual carnival parade.
Despite rain having fallen on much of Gwent on Saturday morning, the skies had cleared and the town was basking in sunshine by the time the parade began.
Led by Mayor of Abergavenny Jane Foulser travelling in a limousine, the parade continued with stiltman Fiery Jack, the Rumney Coronets band, and a series of floats featuring everything from John Travolta lookalikes to schoolchildren dressed up characters from the film Shrek.
Around 400 people took part in the procession, which ended in Bailey Park. Unfortunately the rain came again, but that did not stop the festivities continuing, with around 2,000 people enjoying events such as It's a Knockout and an array of stalls.
Among those taking part in the carnival were regulars and staff from Gilwern's Bridgend Inn, who paraded a Snow White and the Seven Dwarves-themed float and competed in It's A Knockout.
"It's a bit of fun and it brings the community together," said Julie Morgan, from the pub.
Abergavenny's Ysgol Y Fenni was among several schools taking part in the procession, with a float celebrating everything the town has to offer, such as horse riding clubs, and the castle.
Parent Caroline Nuttall, whose two children are pupils at the school, said: "The atmosphere is great. It's nice to see everyone come out and see the floats."
Carnival organiser Chris Evans said: "I'm pleased with the turn out. It's been a great success today and everyone's had a good time."
