Thornwell Football Club is inviting the Chepstow community to share in its celebrations this Saturday, when The Lord Lieutenant for Gwent will officially honour the club with The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, dubbed the MBE for voluntary groups.
The prestigious award has been given to the club - one of only two organisations in Wales to be honoured with the award - for its continuous and dedicated service to the communities of Thornwell and Bulwark for over 20 years. The club was nominated by long-time supporter and former town mayor, Cllr Marian Lewis.
To mark the occasion the club has organised a fun day on July 23 to be held between 9am-6pm, which will include an all day BBQ, a Car Boot Sale between 9am-1pm, live music throughout the day, traditional stalls and activities for children, such as a bouncy castle, pets corner, facepainting, go-karting, penalty shoot-outs, and much more.
The presentation by The Lord Lieutenant will be given at 1.45pm.
Thornwell county councillor, Armand Watts expressed his delight at the football club securing the accolade, saying: "As ward councillor for Thornwell and arguably the worst centre forward the club has ever had playing for them, I am genuinely delighted for everyone involved with the club."
