One of Wales' top hotels, The Celtic Manor, has teamed up with Monmouthshire County Council to help boost tourism in the county by offering a mediaeval package break that includes a visit to Caldicot's historic castle.
Owned and managed by MCC, the castle is to host a medieval banquet for guests of the Celtic Manor Hotel's Castle Fayre to Dragon's Lair weekend break between August 18-19.
Guests will be greeted at the castle by the resident knight, lady of the castle and the surgeon to enjoy an array of medieval activities including archery lessons before settling down to enjoy a medieval feast in the castle's authentic banqueting hall, complete with live entertainment from minstrels and musicians.
The choice of the castle is a result of its use as a venue for Monmouthshire County Council's back 2 business week event in June organised to boost prospects for the county's enterprise and innovation culture.
Over the course of four days 640 delegates attended the event including influential local business people and entrepreneurs. The authority was also able to secure an impressive line-up of sponsors including global IT giants, Microsoft and Cisco.
Monmouthshire's cabinet member for modernisation, enterprise and communications, Bob Greenland said: "Caldicot Castle is one of the jewels in Monmouthshire's crown. "I'm delighted the Celtic Manor is to use it as a key part of a leisure break to be marketed worldwide. This is just one of many spin offs from the back 2 business event that we expect to see over the next few months and in itself more than covers the event's modest net cost of £800."
