A RADIO enthusiast, who was diagnosed with cancer, and raised vital funds for the researcher that is trying to cure the deadly disease, has passed away.
Michael Voss, 54, received treatment from Dr Michael Button, who is based at Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff, after being diagnosed with kidney cancer in 2008.
Mr Voss, from Garndiffaith, kindly donated a cheque of £760 to the centre for Dr Button's own research fund that will be used to find new drugs to combat the disease.
Mr Voss raised the money by having his beard and head shaved, which came as quite a shock as he hadn't seen himself without his hair in 30 years.
Before he passed away last Friday, he had simply said: "I wanted to do something positive to help others."
In late 2008, cancer was found in Mr Voss' lungs, but the father of three and granddad of two, defied all odds and went onto receive further treatment. He was also able to provide invaluable feedback on cancer treatment drugs for Dr Button's research.
Speaking last week, when the money was presented to Velindre, Mr Voss said: "This is a great amount of money and I am very pleased with how people have dug deep and contributed to this worthy cause.
"Both me any my family are grateful and pleased with what we have been able to do."
Mr Voss, was an amateur radio enthusiast and has donated much of his vintage computers and equipment to the Museum of Computing History in Haverhill, Sussex.
Mr Voss leaves behind his wife Janet and three children.
