IT was Division Cup day at the weekend although not all of the county’s clubs were in action.

In the Division 1 Cup Abergavenny had a walk-over Barry and Chepstow returned to winning ways against an opponent they are due to play away in the league this Saturday

In the Division 2 Cup neither Caldicot or Usk had fixtures, according to one website.

But as Chepstow team manager Dean Thomas said, “it was good to get back to winning ways” in their Division 3 Cup match at Oakdale.

“In the first half, the game was pretty even, with the home side scoring the opening try and Chepstow replying with tries from Sam Thomas and Reef Keyte with neither being converted in the blustery conditions and at half time Chepstow led 10-5,” he said.

The visitors came out in the second half with a bang and scored three tries through Jordan Knight and two more from Sam Thomas, completing his hat-trick.

Keegan Everard-Hall kicked two conversions to give Chepstow a good 29-5 lead but Oakdale hit back with an unconverted try.

Tom Bradley was next to cross the whitewash, Keegan Everard-Hall adding the extras.

The last 10 minutes saw Chepstow concede two tries and go down to 13 men after two yellow cards, but they saw the game out for a 36-24 victory.

The match was the dress rehearsal for this Saturday’s league encounter at Oakdale.

Finally in the Division 5 Cup Glyncoch beat Magor 22-17.

Dan Thomas, Josh Griffiths and Morgan Davis scored for Magor.

“It was a closely-contested game played in great spirit by both sides,” webb said later.

“Magor just ran out of time and were on the attack in the closing stages but were defended out by the home side.”
